About TGIF (The Green Initiative Fund)fundtgifimage

The Green Initiative Fund, TGIF, is a ground-breaking, student-initiated and operated organization on campus. The program sustainability projects on UC Berkeley's campus, and the application process is open to Cal students, faculty and staff.

TGIF's goal is to increase amount of renewable energy used on campus, increase energy efficiency, and reduce the amount of waste created by the University. About $170,000 per year is available for grants. Donations given to this fund will increase the amount of money available for grants each year.

Projects are selected for funding by an annually appointed Grant Making Committee consisting of students, faculty, and staff. Students have the majority vote.

TGIF has already supported projects such as waterless urinal installations and exchanging laboratory mercury thermometers, as well as educating faculty members to infuse sustatinability into their curriculums. Other ongoing projects are being developed and funded, including the installation of a photovoltaic array for solar power and a carshare program to help reduce the number of vehicles around campus.
