Hello all Student Groups!
Welcome back to the Spring Semester! We are definitely excited for all the programs and events being produced this semester, not only by the ASUC but by all of the lovely student groups on campus as well! Undoubtedly, the great work generated on this campus wouldn’t be possible without all the commitment and hard work you all have put into your student organizations. Hopefully, you all are able to continue to use the ASUC as a resource--please don’t hesitate to contact any of your Senators, Executives, or OSA Advisors in seeking guidance for your organization’s programming.
As we all know, Eshleman Hall, the home to our student group offices and storage spaces, will be torn down in August of this Fall. Student groups will be moved (“SURGED”) to temporary spaces located in the first floor and basement of Hearst Gym as well as buildings A and D of Hearst Field Annex during the construction of the new Eshleman Hall. We have been working hard all year to ensure that these SURGE spaces are as accommodating as possible to groups’ needs and working styles with the architects from Noll & Tam, and Capital Projects’ Project Manager, Kate Bolton, and Space Management Director, Abram Hardin. Considering the tremendous downsize that student groups will have to make during this transition period, we are very pleased with the spaces that are being provided and hope that groups will be able to continue to fully function in these SURGE temporary spaces.
Because of this tremendous downsize, we will only be opening SURGE space applications to students currently housed in Eshleman by the official ASUC FINAL SPACE ALLOCATIONS 2011-2012 roster. Unfortunately, any new or returning student groups seeking space for the upcoming year but were not allocated Eshleman space via the roster will not be eligible to apply for space in SURGE. For the time being, we are choosing to prioritize groups that already have storage and office spaces in Eshleman before accepting any other space requests. Once groups currently housed in Eshleman are allocated space, we will consider re-opening SURGE space applications for student groups seeking new storage and office spaces as long as adequate SURGE space is still available. Because of the little flexibility we will have in allocating the limited SURGE spaces, we will not hold an appeals process for space requests as the ASUC did in previous years for Eshleman allocations.
The SURGE space application for student groups currently housed in Eshleman is available for download and is due Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 5:00pm. No late applications will be accepted. Please follow the instructions on the application and send completed versions in to the Student Spaces Director at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
