The Academic Senate is a body of faculty and students that governs over the operation of the University of California, Berkeley. Established in 1920, the Academic Senate allows faculty and Cal students to determine the academic policies and objectives of the university. In so doing, these students have the opportunity to serve their community, gain professional experience, and leave their mark on Cal.

The ASUC is the autonomous student governing body for the University of California, Berkeley. Established in 1887, its goal is to serve the needs of Cal students, and in doing so, enhance the education of the students who perform these services through direct experience, leadership opportunities, and skills development.
The ASUC is only as strong as the students who are involved with it. 40th Annual National Student Legislative Conference
February 2, 2009
The 40th Annual National Student Legislative Conference and National Student Lobby Day hosted by the United States Student Association will be held from March 21st-March 24th. If your interested in representing UC Berkeley students on Capitol Hill, turn in your application by Thursday February 12th!
During the conference students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops that will teach them about grassroots organizing, lobbying, and on federal legislative issues. On the last day of the conference students will have the opportunity to lobby their legislators on Capitol Hill.

Student Lobby Conference 2009 DEADLINE EXTENDED
January 26, 2009
The annual Student Lobby Conference hosted by the University of California Students Association is coming up on February 28th to March 2nd. If you're interested, turn in your application by February 6th at noon.
About the SLC:
You will learn about issues like California's current budget crisis affect students. Additionally, the conference will prepare you to effectively lobby your legislators on higher education issues. On the last day of the conference, you, along with students from across the UC system, will be meeting with CA state legislative offices to advocate for UC students across the state.

Culture Show Fund Application
March 19, 2008
The ASUC Fund for Culture Shows has the purpose of educating and enlightening the campus and broader community about a particular community’s experiences and perspectives by funding large performances which encompass aspects of a particular culture. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis by the ASUC Academic Affairs Office. Allocations are generally limited to $500 per individual or student group. The application may be downloaded here.

EVP Allbright Announces New Senate Webcam

In a press release today, Executive Vice President Taylor Allbright announced that the Senate Webcam was operational. "Now, anybody waiting for a bill can watch from home, a cafe, or the library while following developments by checking the new website." Golden Apple Award for Outstanding Teaching

The ASUC, Berkeley Hillel, and The California Alumni Association invite you to nominate your favorite teacher for the Golden Apple Award, an award presented by the ASUC to honor those professors who teach with energy--inspiring, demonstrating passion, and showing care in the classroom. It is the only teaching award at UC Berkeley conferred by the students. The award is intended to recognize those teachers who consistently teach each lecture as if it were their last. ASUC President Delivers State of the Association speech
February 7, 2008
Last night, ASUC President Van Nguyen delivered his State of the Association speech, calling for "continued change" within the ASUC. Nguyen also laid out the redevelopment of Lower Sproul, the creation of a permanent MultiCultural Center, and greater cooperation with student groups as main priorities during the remainder of his term. ASUC Secures Student Fee Reductions
October 28, 2007
On Monday, October 29, 2007, the Associated Students of the University of California
and the Graduate Assembly will announce that for the first time in UC Berkeley's
history, students have successfully lobbied the administration to reduce student fees.
This effort will save students more than $130,000 over the next two years.

ASUC Launches New Website!
September 24, 2007
On September 24, 2007, the Associated Students of the University of
California (ASUC) launched a new and improved website. The 2006-2007 ASUC
executives contracted Reason Media Group, a Los Angeles based integrated
marketing firm co-founded by Cal Alum Jesse Kouffman, to build the new website.
“The new website will increase transparency and accountability
in our student government, and it will improve the services we provide to
the campus community,” says ASUC Executive Vice President Taylor Allbright.
The new site features easier navigation, a user-friendly calendar and
comprehensive information on resources and services for students. |

Space Allocations Decision Released
September 21, 2007
Each year, the ASUC allocates office and storage space to student organizations. The Executive Vice President has released the 2007-2008 Draft Decision for space allocations.
Please note the following:
- This decision only includes groups that are currently allocated or occupying space in Eshleman Hall.
- Groups listed in bold have “jeopardized status”. These groups must submit an appeal if they wish to maintain their space.
- Groups listed in italics are prioritized for improvement and/or relocation, if funds and space permits.
- Groups that are currently allocated or occupying space in Eshleman are eligible to appeal this decision. Below is the tentative timeline for space
allocations:
- Friday, September 21, 2007: Executive Vice President releases draft
decision.
- Friday, September 28, 2007: Appeals to draft decision are due at 5pm.
- Friday, October 5, 2007: Executive Vice President will release preliminary decision. This decision will include all groups who applied for space, including groups that were not previously allocated space.
- Friday, October 19, 2007: Appeals to preliminary decision are due to
the Chair of the Constitutional and Procedural Review Committee at 5pm.
Late October: The Constitutional and Procedural Review Committee will review, potentially amend, and approve the final decision for the 2007-2008 space allocations. Allocations will then go into effect.
