In order to receive ASUC sponsorship, your student group must be registered with UC Berkeley. For more information, visit Campus Life & Leadership. Make sure your Constitution meets the requirements outlined in CLL's Constitution Guidelines.
There are two ways to receive ASUC sponsorship & funding:
- Request sponsorship and/or funding directly from the ASUC Senate through a Bill (click here to see a Timeline!)
- Apply for funding in the ASUC's annual Spring Budgeting process (information above)
Your sponsorship and funding is only good for one academic year. In order to maintain your sponsorship and funding, your student organization must re-apply for funding every year. It is recommended that, once your organization is sponsored, your participate in the Spring Budgeting process each year.
If your group is a graduate student organization, your should seek funding from the Graduate Assembly.
For more funding opportunities, check out the ASUC Grants.

Option 1: Request sponsorship and/or funding directly from the ASUC Senate through a Bill.
This option requires an ASUC elected official to sponsor an ASUC Senate bill on your behalf. The elected official will probably author or help you author the bill. To contact ASUC elected officials, your send a message to the ASUC or you can download a roster of elected officials. The Executive Vice President chairs the Senate and can help you find an elected official sponsor.
A typical student group funding bill includes:
- Information about the group (name, mission, etc.)
- Line item budget of anticipated expenses
- Requested amount of funding
The typical timeline for a student group funding bill is as follows:

Week One:
Student group leaders and bill sponsor(s) work to create the bill.
Week Two:
Bill submitted by Tuesday morning at 9:00 am.
Week Three:
Bill considered in Financial Committee on Monday night, and considered in Senate on Wednesday night. Bill may be amended, passed and/or failed.
Week Four & Five:
ASUC Senate & Auxiliary complete administrative procedures.
Week Six:
In order to access funds, the student organization must contact their ASUC Auxiliary advisor and complete a budget workshop.
NOTE: This option is recommended if:
- your student organization has never received ASUC sponsorship and would like to receive it this year
- OR your student organization has received sponsorship before but failed to apply for spring budgeting the previous year
- AND it is Fall or early Spring.

Option 2: Apply for funding in the ASUC's Annual Spring Budgeting process.
By completing a Spring Budgeting application, your are requesting that the ASUC Senate include a line item for your student organization in the next academic year's budget. This approach is more likely to result in a greater amount of funding than a bill.
